Physiotherapy · Milan and Monza
A rehabilitation pathway to prepare for and recover after orthopaedic surgery, built around the procedure, the individual and the activities they want to return to.
Before and after surgery
When appropriate, rehabilitation can begin before surgery to help you approach the procedure with a clearer understanding of the pathway and the best level of function possible for your individual situation.
After surgery, rehabilitation is adapted to the procedure performed, the surgeon’s guidance, the biological stage of healing and your individual response. Mobility, strength, load tolerance and function are considered alongside psychological and social factors, lifestyle, sleep, stress and personal goals.
Communication with the surgeon and other professionals involved can be important to keep rehabilitation aligned with clinical guidance and the way recovery is progressing.
The pathway
Goals and load are adapted over time: what is appropriate in the early weeks is different from what will be required later.
We start with your story, the planned or completed operation and the activities you want to return to.
We assess function, mobility, strength and current capacity while respecting surgical guidance and timeframes.
Together we define priorities, goals and a progression that reflects the different stages of recovery.
Exercise and load are gradually increased according to your individual response and the demands that need to be restored.
The aim is to rebuild confidence and capacity for a progressive return to daily life, work or sport.
Goals
Rehabilitation is directed towards function and the activities that matter to you.
When appropriate, use the pre-operative phase to prepare physically and understand the rehabilitation pathway.
Progressively regain mobility and confidence in movement while respecting the stage of recovery.
Gradually develop the capacity needed for loads that increasingly reflect real-life demands.
Progress from early recovery towards the demands of work, everyday life or sport.
